City of San Fernando, Pampanga- The Department of Agriculture Region 03 recognized outstanding farmers, farmers’ group and fisher folks in the 2014 Gawad Saka Regional Awards held at the Heroes Hall, City of San Fernando (P) DA Undersecretary for Operations (Livestock) Jose C. Reano, who served as guest of honor and speaker, lauded the farmers for their remarkable performance in increasing farmers’ productivity, resulting to food sufficiency and sustainability. Out of the 17 regional awardees, fifteen of the awardees will represent Central Luzon in the national search for Gawad Saka this year. For the individual category, this year’s Gawad Saka Regional Awardees are: Gerardo C. Esteban, outstanding integrated rice farmer from Laur, Nueva Ecija; Dr. Manuel Jose C. Regalado, outstanding agricultural scientist from City of Munoz, Nueva Ecija; Arcadio F. de Belen, outstanding large animal raiser from San Ildefonso, Bulacan; Renato Ferdinand Richard L. Songco, outstanding small animal raiser of Guagua, Pampanga, Annete A. Ong, oustanding agri-entrepreneur from Magalang, Pampanga, Eulogio V. Cabiles, outstanding corn farmer from San Manuel, Tarlac, Emily A. Soriano, outstanding agricultural researcher from Tarlac, Jonathan L. Tayaben, outstanding high value crops farmer, Victorio S. Santos, outstanding fish culture and Leopoldo N. Bugay, outstanding fish capture from Samal, Bataan.

Meanwhile, the other 2014 Regional Gawad Saka awardees under the group category are: City Agricultural and Fishery Council (CAFC) of Munoz, Nueva Ecija as outstanding CAFC,San Antonio Barangay Council as outstanding barangay food terminal (LGU managed), Kababaihan Ng Tabacao as outstanding barangay food terminal (non-LGU managed) from Tabacao, Nueva Ecija, Benito F. Sagala and family as outstanding farm family, CATMON MPC as outstanding small farmer organization, Provincial Agricultural and Fishery Council (PAFC) Bulacan as outstanding PAFC, and Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (FARMC) of Candelaria, Zambales as outstanding FARMC. The Gawad Saka, the search for outstanding Filipino farmers, is an annual undertaking of the DA which aims to give due recognition and pay tribute to dedicated individuals and institutions whose exemplary accomplishments contributed to the country’s agricultural development. Each winner for the individual category received P30,000 cash prize while each group category got P50,000 cash.
